The Product Research team within Bitsight’s Security Research department focuses on technology and methodology development for risk signal collection, processing, and analysis. The team is part of Bitsight’s broader product development organization and is involved with investigating and prototyping new potential product capabilities.

This researcher will be tasked with defining and optimizing workflows related to Bitsight’s attribution of digital infrastructure to organizations. This role will be ideally suited to a researcher who can apply a solid foundation of computer networking and security concepts to develop both automated and human-curated methodologies for identifying relationships between organizations and the Internet infrastructure that they own and operate. Key to success will be the development of metrics and measurements of the quality of attributions that can be used to inform resource investments and optimize workflows. This position will work closely with the Engineering team that implements our attribution tooling, the Technical Research team that curates attributions, and the Data Science team that builds models to automate and improve mapper workflows.

Objectives & Responsibilities

  • Define workflows that improve the recall and efficiency of Bitsight’s processes for attributing Internet infrastructure to organizations

  • Define health and quality criteria for attribution process to quantify the value of contributing datasets, inform future investment areas, and track overall platform performance

  • Design and research methods for new data collection or new applications of data to introduce new product features or serve as enhancements to existing features.

  • Identify opportunities for ML/AI to augment or enhance existing curated processes

  • Decompose abstract research questions into testable hypotheses and technical research plans

  • Clearly articulate research findings to business stakeholders and provide quantitative recommendations on business processes, priorities, and investments

  • Collaborate with product and engineering groups to develop new data processing specifications

Qualifications

  • Strong technical background with expertise in computer networking concepts

  • Familiarity with network infrastructure registries (e.g. ARIN, RIPE) and the protocols that support Internet routing and registration (e.g. DNS, BGP, RDAP)

  • Ability to conduct statistical experiments and develop rapid prototypes

  • Strong communication and analytical skills, including the ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems

  • Proficient in standard scripting languages

Education

  • B.S/M.S in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Statistics or similar field or commensurate experience.
